Reflection on the Readings

Each of us has the divine life of God within us. And that spirit of God that dwells within us helps us to live the life God has called us to live. That almost sounds too good to be true.

Maybe some of us do sense the working and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. But I would bet that many of us don’t have that sense. Many of us just don’t “feel” the presence of the Holy Spirit in us.

Story about a minister and his daughter…
One Saturday night a minister was busy writing his sermon for Sunday.
His little daughter saw him working busily and asked him what he was doing. He said he was writing his sermon.
She asked, “Daddy, how do you know what to write?”
He answered, “The Holy Spirit tells me what to write.”
Then she asked, “So, why do you keep erasing?”
😂

Sometimes the Spirit’s presence in our lives is very clear, but most times it is challenging to know what God is saying to us, or how He is working in our lives, or where He is guiding us.

So, how do you know if you are allowing the Holy Spirit to work in your life?

How do you know if you are collaborating with the Holy Spirit?

We know that we can’t see the Holy Spirit nor control the Holy Spirit because, like the wind, it blows and goes where it wills. But we can see the consequences and the effects of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

In St. Paul’s Letter to the Galatians chapter 5, St. Paul tells us about the
fruits of the Holy Spirit. Or better, the EFFECTS that the presence of the
Holy Spirit has in our lives. They’re kind of like His signature.

Two of my favorites are joy and peace. So, if you want to know if you are collaborating with the Holy Spirit in your life, look for these two very important marks.

Quote of the Week

We can study the whole history of salvation, we can study the whole of theology, but without the Spirit we cannot understand. It is the Spirit that makes us realize the truth or—in the words of Our Lord—it is the Spirit that makes us know the voice of Jesus.
