Centered in Hope, Growing in Faith

This past weekend, I shared at all Masses an important and hopeful moment in the life of Saint James: the public launch of our parish capital campaign, Centered in Hope, Growing in Faith. I would like to use this space to remind those who were present— and to inform those who may not have been able to attend—about the vision before us and the invitation extended to every member of our parish family.

At Saint James, we are truly blessed. We are a vibrant parish, not by accident but because generations before us believed deeply enough to sacrifice, to plan, and to trust God with the future of this parish. Today, it is our turn!!!

After years of prayer, study, and consultation, that discernment became clear, and a new vision was born: the New Parish Center. This vision is not about buildings alone, but about community, hospitality, and mission.

As we finalize the sale of the school and convent property, we must construct an adequate space for ministry meetings, faith formation, outreach, administration, and simple gatherings of community.

This moment also allows us to do three critically important things:

  • Eliminate our remaining parish debt
  • Secure a rectory for our priests (Already accomplished!)
  • Build not only for today, but for generations yet to come

All of this comes together in our capital campaign, Centered in Hope, Growing in Faith. This is a three-year campaign with a goal of $2.5 million, which—combined with the proceeds from the sale of the school property—will fully fund the Parish Center project and place Saint James on firm financial footing for the future.

It is important for me to say this clearly: this campaign is not about equal giving; it is about equal sacrifice. Every family has different responsibilities, different capacities, and different seasons of life. Only you, in prayer, can discern what God is asking of you. What matters most is not the size of the gift, but participation and the trust behind it.

I am also happy to share encouraging news. Prior to our public announcement, I had the privilege of meeting with several parish families to invite them to consider an early leadership pledge. Because of their generosity, we have already raised over $1.4 million toward our $2.5 million goal from just 65 families. This remarkable response gives me tremendous confidence.

Fr. Dennehy and I have both made our pledges, and I now ask you to begin prayerfully considering yours as well.

In the weeks ahead, you will hear more about the campaign through the bulletin and parish communications, lay witness talks at upcoming Masses, and a letter and information packet you will receive at home. Members of the Capital Campaign Committee will also be available after Masses to answer questions. At the end of May, during our In-Pew Commitment Weekend, every household will have the opportunity to make—or complete—a pledge.

My prayer is that we will see this moment not as a burden or a fear, but as a holy opportunity to say together: “Yes, Lord. We trust You with our future.”

Thank you for your love for Saint James and for your generosity, past and present. Please pray for the success of this campaign, and know that I am praying for you.

Together, centered in hope and growing in faith, we will build a bright future for our beloved parish.

Saint James the Apostle, pray for us.
